Epcot International Food and Wine Festival Fast Facts
One of Walt Disney World’s most popular annual events, the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival draws thousands of visitors each day to sample food and drinks from both local and international marketplaces. In addition to the delicious food, there are cooking demonstrations, seminars, premium dinner and party events, and even appearances by famous chefs and TV shows. Here are some interesting facts about this years’ events.
Record Numbers
The 2016 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival has expanded to a whopping 62 days; more than double the original 30 day run in 1996. The 21st annual event will run from September 14th through November 14th, 2016. Included this year are 204 premium events, such as the Rockin’ Burger Block Party and Party for the Senses. Nearly 400 cooking demonstrations and seminars will take place with 375 hours of seminar time scheduled.
International Cuisine
This year we’ll see 30 distinct global marketplaces offering dozens of unique foods with 32 new items introduced this year. The hardest part is deciding to try as you wander through the country pavilions. More than 225 million dishes were served over last years 53 day Festival.
Something to Chew On
ABC TV’s The Chew will tape five live shows in front of an audience at Epcot this year. Hosts Mario Batali, Carla Hall, Michael Symon, Clinton Kelly and Daphne Oz will share their Disney culinary adventures and tasty recipes. Taping will occur October 5-7 with air dates of October 10-14.
Drink up me hearties!
The 2016 Food and Wine Festival has a heavy focus on the “and Wine” part with more than 50 wineries and 35 breweries represented. Over 300 domestic and international wines will be served. Around 50 new cocktails, wines, beers, and hard ciders will be available to sample. Don’t worry, there are also plenty of non-alcoholic beverages to try. My favorite is the bubble tea!
Mood Music
With a longer Festival comes more music! 186 Eat to the Beat concert performances are scheduled with several new acts, including Wang Chung, Delta Rae, and Living Colour. Concerts are the perfect excuse to hang around the American pavilion for some beer and BBQ samples. Click here for the full 2016 schedule and times.
